CFC changes corporate name to Minnova Inc.

Innovation in mining will characterize the new Corporation Falconbridge Copper, so the company has taken that phrase and fashioned a new name for itself — Minnova Inc.

Since control of the company — a 49.3% interest — passed from Falconbridge Ltd. to Kerr Addison Mines in August, CFC made it clear that it wanted to change its name to avoid confusion with its former parent company. Many of the suggestions, including a number from employees, reflected the company’s roots.

The final choice, however, was provided by a professional name- finding company. President Ian Bayer says the company “will continue to be an aggressive explorer, mine developer and operator,” and the name is meant to reflect that dynamic nature.

The name is also bilingual which will make it more readily acceptable outside of Quebec, the province in which it is incorporated.

A new corporate logo is also in the works. It features the new name printed in slate black except for the “O” which will be in gold leaf. The “O” will also be a stylized version of the ancient alchemists symbol for gold.

The new name will be submitted for shareholder approval at the company’s annual meeting in Montreal, April 27.
