Casa Berardi operating again

A localized ground fall at the Casa Berardi mine in northwestern Quebec has claimed the life of a driller.

Marco Germain, an employee at the mine since 1988, is survived by his wife and two children.

The accident occurred June 21 in the 250 intermediate stope of the West mine, about 416 ft. from the Casa Berardi fault. Although close to the fault, the accident is apparently unrelated to the regional structure.

In the immediate aftermath, joint owners TVX Gold (TSE) and Golden Knight Resources (TSE) closed both the East and West mines.

The investigations lasted a day and a half and the mine was reopened June 23.
