Black Gregor Explorations have received some encouraging results from exploration at their Hemlo gold property north of Marathon, Ont.
Located 12 miles northwest of the Lac-Noranda-Corona Hemlo gold mine, the 391-claim property is being explored by Carlson (40% working interest) and Black Gregor (60% working interest). Carlson says trenching and rock sampling have expanded the discovery area to include four separate parallel zones of quartz veins, shear zones and interflow sediments. The original gold discovery assayed at 1.2 oz gold per ton according to Carlson.
According to the company, best values from an 8-hole drill program completed earlier this year included 0.14 oz from hole No 2 which was drilled to undercut the west conductor axis.
The zone has been extended approximately 700 ft to the northeast where sampling of trench No 5 has uncovered a 10 ft section assaying 0.97 oz. Additional composite trench results are as follows: No 1 assayed at 0.31 oz , No 2 at 0.048 oz and No 3 at 0.25 oz.
Carlson says an extensive program is under way to test the continuity of mineralization to the north where geophysics have identified a 3-mile, on-strike conductive zone.
Carlson President Robert Platt said a 15,000-ft (40 hole) drilling program, designed to test new structures over the 3-mile strike zone, will begin in November. It will also attempt to detail gold mineralization indicated by surface trenching.
