CaribGold Resources announces encouraging Cuban drill

Toronto-listed CaribGold Resources has drilled nine holes on the Descanso-Melonera project in west-central Cuba. Three holes were drilled at Descanso, four at Melonera and two at Oropesa, a new area where gold values were outlined in panned concentrates.

To date, results have been received from three of the nine holes; one from each area. The hole drilled at Melonera contained three mineralized sections, which included: 12.19 grams gold per tonne over 2.4 metres from 18 to 20.4 metres; 27.43 grams over 0.6 metres from 45.7 to 46.3 metres; and 9.89 grams over 4.85 metres from 90.55 to 95.4 metres.

The company has also received encouraging results from its Santa Clara project, in particular the Pedro Barba vein structure in the southeast part of the concession.

Previously thought to be three separate structures, the Pedro Barba vein is now believed to be one continuous vein system that has been traced along a gabbro-serpentinite contact for 16 km.

Soil sampling over the Lote Grande sector within this structure has delineated a gold anomaly measuring 500 metres long by 100 metres wide. The anomaly has yielded soil values of up to 13.8 grams gold, and grab samples of oxidized rock have returned values as high as 19 grams. A second parallel anomaly, 150 metres to the southwest, has also recently been identified. Soil sampling within this area is being expanded and a bulldozer stripping operation will soon be under way.

Later this summer, CaribGold plans to fly about 10,000 line km of airborne geophysical surveys over several areas within its concessions. The company has also contracted Heath & Sherwood of Kirkland Lake, Ont., to carry out a 4,572-metre drill program on various targets.
