This position reports to the Mine General Manager and has a Safety Supervisor reporting to it.

Responsibilities include all human resource functions such as promoting good labour relations, recruiting, administering and working with the collective agreement, overseeing the benefit and apprenticeship programs and working with management and employees to insure a positive working environment.

A solid background in health and safety issues and loss control techniques is also required.

The successful candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to co-ordinate between departments.

Employee relations and safety experience in an open pit mining environment are essential requirements.

Senior Mill Metallurgist

Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited has a requirement for a Metallurgist at its Mill in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate metallurgical, chemical or mineral-processing engineer with a minimum of ten years experience in all facets of mill operations. Familiarity with process control strategy, on-stream analysis and metallurgical laboratory procedures are required. Experience with project management/equipment installations is preferred.

Our open pit metallurgical coal mine near Hinton, Alberta, produces approximately 1.5 million tonnes annually and includes a pit mine operations and coal preparation plant. Now you can join our team in the following key roles:

Chief Engineer

You will be responsible for the development of mine plans, cost forecasts and related engineering projects for the mine. As a leader of the engineering planning team, you will develop mining strategies and optimization studies and perform feasibility studies relating to mining equipment and mine development, as well as communicating with government on environmental permitting and pit licensing. While performing costs, quality, productivity and other engineering analysis, you will present mine plan proposals and recommendations for mine management.

You are a university graduate in Mining Engineering and have at least six years of experience in the open pit mining industry. Experience in both the operational and engineering aspects of open pit mining operations is a definite asset. Ideally, you have a high degree of computer proficiency with mine planning software, including Medsystem. Your strong oral and written communication, organizational and leadership skills will enhance your ability to be a team player. Experience in reserve evaluation, quality assessment, mine design/layout, scheduling and cost forecasting is essential.

Your qualifications include an engineering degree with 15 years of mining or milling experience which translates into a solid understanding of the technical process used at the facility. This experience will include leadership and general management responsibilities in a union setting.
