Executive Recruitment
The Saudi Arabian Mining Company (“Ma’aden”) was created in 1996 by the Saudi government to assist with the diversification of the country’s national economy. Although destined to be a holding company, Ma’aden presently operates one major high-grade, low-cost, gold mine; owns 50% of a second gold producer (with Boliden); and is actively developing several other precious and base metal projects, a number of which should be in production within 3-5 years. In due course, Ma’aden plans to establish separate subsidiary operating companies to run their precious metals, base metals, industrial minerals, and future downstream manufacturing operations. To facilitate the next step in their growth process, Ma’aden has created the following three corporate head office positions, based in Riyadh.
Senior Business Analyst
Reporting to the VP Finance and CFO, your main job will be to assist in evaluating the economics of Ma’aden’s current mining operations, its proposed new mining projects, and future property/mine acquisitions. It entails tracking global metal and mineral prices, keeping abreast of commodity market trends, and extensive development of computer models. The latter will also be used to evaluate debt financing options available and to perform other financial and technical analysis as required. Ideal candidates will have an MBA, with an undergrad degree in business, finance or engineering; probably 10-15 years experience, some of which must have been in mining; strong computer spreadsheet modelling skills; and previous participation in pre-feasibility or feasibility studies.
Manager, Procurement
Reporting to the VP Finance and CFO, you will develop from scratch contemporary, practical policies and procedures for the corporate Purchasing Department to maximize Ma’aden’s overall efficiency, safety and profitability. In part, it will entail installation and management of computerized purchasing management systems, identification and selection of suppliers for all Company products and services; management of international purchasing programs (including traffic and customs); development of materials requisitioning procedures, and the steps and procedures to conduct negotiations with international vendors, etc. Ideal candidates will have an undergraduate degree and/or a PMAC or equivalent designation; a minimum of 15 years’ experience, including at least 10 years in purchasing, some of which has been directly related, at an equivalent management level (preferably in mining; although other resource industry experience will be considered), which has entailed extensive international purchasing.
Environment Coordinator
Reporting to the Corporate Executive, your immediate challenge will be to determine what environmental and safety policies, procedures and capabilities Ma’aden requires overall. Then you will develop and implement the authorized courses of action Company-wide. You will also participate in the design and implementation of Saudi Arabia’s national mining environmental policy. Ideally, you will be a P.Eng. in a mining or environment-related discipline, with 10-15 years’ experience in the mining industry. You must be knowledgeable in both open pit and underground mining, and in process alternatives. Most importantly, your track record for having previously designed and managed environmental management programs for major organizations; your ability to prepare protocols and formats for environmental impact studies; your superior interpersonal and communication skills; and your ability to make effective presentations to senior executives and public officials, must be above reproach.
Ideal candidates for all Ma’aden positions will have several years’ experience in Middle Eastern or other developing countries. They should al
so have a genuine interest in this unique opportunity to assist Ma’aden in its efforts to develop a world-class mining industry in Saudi Arabia and to effect a transfer f technical expertise to Saudi nationals.
For all three positions, Ma’aden is offering attractive compensation (payable in US$) and benefit packages, contemporary 2-bedroom air-conditioned fully-furnished homes (utilities included), in attractive expatriate compounds offering an abundance of recreational and leisure-time activities. Qualified candidates should note that Saudi Arabia is a tax-free country. Please submit your resume, in confidence, to Jerry Flynn or call for more information to:
