Process Control Specialist

Applicants for the position of Process Control Specialist will possess a proven record of conceiving, designing and implementing process control applications in the minerals processing industry and will be expected to work efficiently in both office and plant settings. A strong background in field instrumentation, PLC based low voltage motor controls, and experience with DCS’s and SCADA systems is expected.

Project Metallurgist

Applicants for the position of Project Metallurgist will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical (Mineral Process) Engineering and at least five years of experience in the operation of a modem mineral processing plant. A history of investigating, developing and implementing innovative process solutions is required. Good knowledge of process simulation and statistical analysis techniques is an asset.

Director, Mineral and Energy Resources (Halifax)

The Director, Mineral and Energy Resources, is a key member of the Minerals and Energy Branch management team and is responsible for program direction and management of geological mapping, geochemistry, geophysics, and mineral resource evaluation and promotion programs. This senior management position reports to the Executive Director and is accountable for determining the geoscience needs of industry, the public, and government in Nova Scotia and for developing and implementing programs and policies to meet these needs. Important aspects of this position include the promotion of private sector mineral exploration and the application of geoscience for the benefit of the public in the province. Frequent liaison with industry, the federal government and universities as well as other government departments and agencies will be required.

The successful candidate will have a post graduate university degree in geoscience, extensive experience in mineral exploration or geoscientific research, demonstrated management skills and experience and a record of achievement in positions of increased responsibility. Excellent organizational, communication and planning skills, and demonstrated progressive leadership qualities are essential. Familiarity with the Canadian mineral exploration industry and government geological survey organizations, current geoscience research activities and issues, and the role of government geoscience programs in a societal context will be considered an asset.

Pay level: $54,237 – $70,508

Geologist 3 (Project Geochemist) – Halifax

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Geological Mapping, you will be responsible for planning and undertaking geoscientific project work in mineral exploration geochemistry and environmental geochemistry. Responsibilities include: project initiation and planning; evaluating scientific methodology of field sampling, data collection, processing and presentation; conducting appropriate office and laboratory investigations; communicating sound concepts and interpretation to users in publishable departmental and external maps, reports, digital products, and technical presentations including mineral exploration promotion. These responsibilities may be exercised individually or as part of a project team, and by establishing effective working relationships with other geoscientists and clients.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Geoscience with five years, a Master’s degree in Geoscience with four years, or a PhD degree in Geoscience with two years relevant experience required. Applicants will demonstrate a broad background in geology, specialized knowledge and experience in low temperature geochemistry, mineral exploration geochemistry, environmental geochemistry, and geochemistry mapping, a high degree of applied computer literacy and experience in statistics, spreadsheets, GIS and database management and analysis, integrated geochemical and geophysical surveys as applied to regional mapping will be considered assets. Applicants must have demonstrated a high degree of scientific skill and judgement in prioritizing, planning and carrying out geoscientific research. Excellent written and oral communications skill, a related geoscience publication record and an appreciation of the links between geochemistry, surficial and bedrock geology, mineral deposits and environmental science are required.

Pay level: $41,460 – $50,539

Safety Coordinator

Responsibilities of this position include developing, applying and monitoring Health and Safety guidelines, and developing a training program for all plant employees, as well as the application and monitoring of a ISO 9001 QA program relating to welding, machining and manufacturing of components for Tunnel Boring Machines.

The successful candidate must be familiar with the application
and interpretation of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, the WHMIS program and all other programs or regulations that apply to an Industrial metal fabricating and heavy machinery plant.

Industrial Mechanic/Millwright

Responsibilities of this position include plant preventative maintenance, machinery overhauls and rebuilds, and fabricating and forming equipment including overhead gantry cranes, vertical boring mills, engine lathes, CNC lathes, radial drills, milling machines, and forklifts.

The successful candidate will be an Industrial Mechanic or Millwright, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a heavy industrial welding and fabrication environment maintaining and overhauling stationary and mobile equipment.

Main Duties:

Qualifications and Experience:
