MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING
Reporting to the Mill Superintendent, you will provide engineering support to the mill to enhance and optimize operations and maintenance. Responsibilities include carrying out assessment and feasibility studies, supervising construction and commissioning of projects, preparing technical specifications, drawings and engineering estimates, as well as planning and administering the maintenance budget.
A Mechanical Engineering degree and eligibility for membership in PEO is preferred. A mechanical engineering technology diploma will also be considered. Ten to 15 years’ industrial maintenance experience is required, preferably in mining/milling. Competition # KAP 200.
Buyer
As a member of the site management team, you will be responsible for purchasing general and specialized equipment and operating chemicals, managing the warehouse, labour contracts, and acquiring business services for the mine. You will establish materials management site guidelines and process aligned with corporate policy and maintain the Mill’s management system (SAP).
You possess a Level Four PMAC designations or a related underground degree with a minimum of six years’ mining industry purchasing experience. Competition #KAP 300.
Mill Coach/Trainer
You will help ensure the operations and maintenance teams operate the plant in an efficient and safe manner. Your duties will include ongoing training and coaching in the development, delivery and/or coordination of Operations, Maintenance and Environmental Health and Safety programs.
You have a journeyman trade ticket, or a diploma from a recognized technical program plus ten years of experience in an industrial setting. Ideally, you will be certified in such areas as WHMIS, TDG, First Aid/CPR, and confined space entry. The proven ability to contribute as an individual and as a coach to self-management teams is critical. Competition # KAP 400.

The Lisheen Mine, Tipperary, Ireland
Ivernia West plc. and Minorco are partners in a Joint Venture to develop a Zinc/Lead mine in County Tipperary
, Ireland. This is a world class mining project and the biggest zinc discovery in Europe in the last 13 years. Underground trackless mining methods will be employed and will include blast hole stoping, room and pillar/drift and fill. Production will be at the rate of 1.5 Mt. Per annum. Production of zinc and lead concentrates will average 300,000 tonnes and 40,000 tonnes respectively per annum over the 14 years predicted life of the mine. As we prepare for operational phase of the mine which is due to commence in the final quarter of 1999, we now invite applications for the following positions:
ENGINEERING SERVICES
Senior Mechanical/Electrical Engineer: The senior mechanical/electrical engineer will be the head of the engineering department, reporting to the General Manager. Responsibilities will include the managing of capital projects, central planned maintenance department, material management section including procurement, all engineering functions excluding the mine and concentrator maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years mining experience, preferably underground and a relevant third level qualifications.
MINING
Mechanical/Electrical Engineer: Reporting to the Mining Manager, the ideal candidate will have at least ten years experience in the underground mining industry and will be responsible for all engineering aspects of the underground operation. Heading a maintenance team with responsibilities which include the efficient and safe operation of all trackless (diesel power) and fixed plant. Prior to commissioning, duties will cover design finalization and monitoring all engineering aspects of the mine development contract.
Technical Services Engineer: Reporting to the Mining Manager, this position requires a minimum of ten years experience in both mine planning and production operations. A tertiary qualification in mining engineering is essential, as well as excellent communication skills and computer literacy. Geotechnical expertise and back fill experience would be advantageous.
Knowledge and experience of Vulcan mine planning software would also be beneficial.
SAFETY
Safety Officer: Reporting to the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, the ideal candidate will have at least five years experience and relevant third level qualifications. Experience in the mining industry or similar industry is essential.
Responsibilities will involve the implementation of health & safety programmes, as well as establishing best practice throughout the facility. Risk assessment, site audits, safety training, occupational monitoring, accident investigation will form part of the duties.
CONCENTRATOR
General Foreman: The ideal candidate will have at least ten years experience, preferably in base metals, Knowledge of modern grinding, flotation an dewatering processes are essential as is operational management experience of a concentrator and a tailings dam. Operational responsibility will also include a water treatment plant and concentrate haulage. The successful candidate will be responsible for the recruitment and training of the operations team prior to commissioning and therefore should also possess excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
Mechanical/Electrical Engineer: The ideal candidate will have at least ten years mineral processing experience and possess a third level electrical or mechanical qualification or apprenticeship plus relevant years of experience. Responsibilities will include the recruitment and training of the maintenance team to provide a comprehensive maintenance service, both preventive and routine, to ensure orderly operations of the plant facility. The successful candidate should also possess excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
Metallurgist: The ideal candidate will have at least three years experience in the minerals processing industry and possess a relevant third level qualification. Responsibilities during the construction phase will involve commissioning and a close involvement in the development of the process control system. Duties for operations will include ongoing process control development and process optimization.

erience in open pit mining. Good knowledge of Datamine and A-mine software, holding a permit to manipulate explosive substances, certificate in modular training applied to mine workers as well as bilingualism (French-English) will be greatly considered.
