Dome Mine

Dome Mine, a division of Placer Dome North America, is an underground and open pit gold mining operation located within the City of Timmins, Ontario. The mine has been in operation since 1910, and with the recent $150 million expansion, is producing over 300,000 ounces of gold annually. The mill processes approximately 4.2 million tons of ore annually, of which 3.0 million tons are supplied by the open pit and the remainder by the underground operations.

Dome Mine is seeking applications for the challenging position of:

Electrical Engineer

You will perform electrical design and draft modifications for plant equipment, modelling electrical systems with design software and installing new machinery and equipment. You will also assist Electrical Supervisors with major job planning and material requisitions, and produce written and verbal reports. Communication with all maintenance and operations levels is crucial. The position involves assisting with budget preparation, evaluating and liaising with suppliers, and maintaining records for warranty purposes.

You must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, and a background in all aspects of open pit and underground mining operations. Ideal candidates have strong leadership, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with Auto CAD and a computer-based maintenance system. You must be willing to make the commitment and maintain this section as one of the best within the Placer Dome Group.

Agrium Inc. is the largest North American producer of nitrogen fertilizers and a mojor producer of potash and phosphate fertilizers. The Company is developing an open pit phosphate mine and processing plant located 40 km southwest of Kapuskasing in Northern Ontario.

Mill Superintendent and Mine Superintendent

Kapuskasing Phosphate Operations

Reporting to the site Manager, the Superintendents will use their management experience and proven team building talents to oversee all aspects of the Mine and Mill activities. They will develop and implement operation strategies, direct teams of skilled operations personnel and technical staff, and liaise with government and local communities.

As Mill Superintendent, you will lead safe and efficient operations, maintenance and shipping activities. You will:

  • recommend operational changes as necessary to ensure production quotas are met;
  • evaluate efficiency of phosphate concentrate production for adequacy of personnel, skills, equipment, work schedules and technologies used;
  • ensure adherence to environment and safety regulations;
  • direct quality control inspection processes and develop production reporting systems;
  • lead a team of mill operations technicians, a maintenance engineer and metallurgist.

As Mine Superintendent, you will have direct control of the mining contract/contractor. You will:

  • ensure the safe and efficient operation of the mine;
  • coordinate mine production with mill operations;
  • contribute to longer term operation by ensuring appropriate mine development planning;
  • ensure staff planning and development supports economical production of specified production levels;
  • maintain currency on relevant new mine equipment and technology;
  • ensure compliance with government environmental and OH&S regulations concerning mining operations;
  • lead a team including a lab technician, geologist, and mine engineer.

The Superintendents are seasoned professionals with relevant post secondary education and at least 10 years’ progressively senior experience, preferably in mining/milling. Their track record reflects successful career development opportunities with an increasing leadership component and outstanding safety and environmental attitude. Proven leaders, they have strong coaching and interpersonal skills and are results oriented with excellent organizational, communication and administrative capabilities. Central to their success will be their ability to promote a team based organizational structure. Fluency in English and French is a definite asset.

A Western based major supplier to the mining industry requires an Application Engineer. You are experienced, highly motivated and demonstrate excellent organization ability to take on a challenge throughout Canada. You have a background in metallurgical or mining/process engineering.
