Kahama Mining Corporation Ltd. (KMCL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sutton Resources Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada, is a mineral exploration and development company with assets which include the Bulyanhulu Gold Project in Tanzania. This is a world class deposit expected to produce 300,000 oz of gold per year for at least 20 years, with 1000+ employees. We are now in a position to search for key members of our site management team.
Applicants to all positions must be knowledgeable and sensitive to developing nations cultures. Experience in Africa, and especially Tanzania, would be an asset, but not a pre-requisite. A strong commitment and proven ability to skill development in subordinates must be shown, as is proven experience in business management, including government and community relations. All successful candidates will have experience in remote mining operations.
GENERAL MANAGER: Leading the site operations and reporting to the Vice President of Project Development and Operations in Vancouver, the GM will provide leadership and guidance to all other site managers to ensure that commissioning and production goals are achieved at optimum efficiency and minimum cost, consistent with safe operating procedures, applicable laws, and sound business practices. This position will ensure that community and government relations are carried out in a manner consistent with corporate philosophy and that the basic social fabric of Tanzanian life is recognized and preserved.
Qualifications: University graduate in Mining or Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent; 20 years mining experience, covering all aspects, both technical and managerial; Senior operating management experience in a remote location.
ADMINISTRATION MANAGER: Reporting to the GM, the Administration Manager will provide leadership, guidance and coordination to his department managers (Administration & Finance, Human Resources & Community Relations and Security) to ensure that all administrative goals are achieved, and aligned with the operational requirements of the site.
Qualifications: Professional accounting designation or equivalent; 15 years relevant experience in a mining operation, with a minimum of 5 years at management level; Fully conversant and experienced with Electronic Data Processing, community relations, purchasing and control, human resources and employee relations.
Reporting to the Operations Manager:
MINE SUPERINTENDENT: Directs all functions and activities of the mine department to realize production commitments, safely and at minimum costs.
Qualifications: University graduate in Mining Engineering or equivalent;15 years min. mining experience covering technical and management of underground hard rock mines with 5 years min. experience in management positions of mines in remote locations.
MILL SUPERINTENDENT: Directs all functions and activities of the mill department to realize production commitments, safely and at minimum costs.
Qualifications: University graduate in Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent; 15 years min. experience of processing polymetallic sulphide ores; 5 years min. experience in the recovery of precious metals through leaching and electro winning; 5 years min. experience in management positions of mines in remote locations.
MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT: Maintains all site facilities and equipment in a manner that ensures production objectives are achieved safely at minimum cost.
Qualifications: Technological Institute graduate or Mech Eng or Elec Eng Degree or equivalent; 10 years min. relevant experience; 5 years in similar management position at hard rock mines in remote locations; Experience as tradesperson or trade supervisor is considered an asset.
TECHNICAL SERVICES SUPERINTENDENT: Manages and coordinates mine engineering, geological interpretation and structural design staff to ensure that the most efficient and economical methods are used in the mine development. Keeps abreast of new engineering techniques and maintains a highly professional and technically-oriented staff.
Qualifications: Degree in Mining or equivalent; Experienced in mine design, related computer systems and rescue equipment; 10 years min. experience in mine engineering and production in underground mines; Direct experience in mine planning, mine operations and budget control; 5 years min. experience in management position of mines in remote locations.
SAFETY & TRAINING SUPERINTENDENT: Determines the training needs in safety, mine rescue, skill development and job training. Manages and coordinates the delivery of classroom and hands-on training to provide the requisite needs.
Qualifications: Graduate of apprenticeship program in electrical or mechanical trade; Multi-skilled experience highly preferred with technical knowledge and operating experience in relevant mining equipment; 4 years minimum experience in mining as a fully qualified tradesperson; 4 years additional experience in teaching and training in similar operating mine; Experience in welding, instrumentation and machining highly desirable; Strong proven commitment and experience in safety training; Remote location experience considered an asset.
Reporting to the Administration Manager:
ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE SUPERINTENDENT: Ensures that mine accounting and warehousing sections function in an efficient manner at all times at minimum cost and in compliance with sound accounting and purchasing principles and government regulations.
Qualifications: Degree in Commerce or Business Administration or equivalent; Professional accounting designation; 10 years min. practical experience in accounting dept of mining operation; 5 years min. experience in management position of mining operation; Fully conversant with computerized accounting systems.

Mine Mechanical Superintendent
Extensive experience required in preventative maintenance and repair of underground production equipment – scooptrams, blasthole rigs, haulage trucks and Jumbo’s. Willingness to train and improve the workforce is required.
Blasthole Mining Engineer
Enthusiastic, mining engineer required with 5 years experience. Special interest in improvement and optimization of blasthole mining techniques to reduce dilution and blasting costs is required.
