The position will be based in either the North American or London offices of the Company, dependent upon the current location of the selected professional. Behre Dolbear is a leading worldwide minerals industry technical and management consulting firm with eight offices. The company offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The Department of Geological Sciences & Geological Engineering at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario invites applications for a tenure-track, half-time appointment in mineral economics at the rank of assistant professor to commence in September 1999. To be considered, applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mineral Economics or Geology with a strong background in mineral exploration and deposit evaluation. The successful candidate should have teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate level and will be required to teach courses and supervise thesis research in our Mineral Exploration and Geological Engineering programs. It is anticipated that the successful candidate has detailed knowledge and established links with the mineral exploration and mining industry, which can be used to facilitate the development of a research program. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian Professional Engineering Association would be an asset. Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.

ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR

The role of the Environmental Coordinator is to assist management in providing leadership in the environmental area and to provide technical expertise in a wide range of environmental matters.

Specific functions within this general role include:

  • Ensuring compliance with permit requirements, regulations and company policy.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive environmental management system.
  • Providing liaison with environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Participating in the corporate environmental audit program.
  • Participating in the planning and operating process, especially tailings management.
  • Advising superintendents, the manager and other personnel on environmental matters.

Preferred candidates will have a degree in mineral processing, chemistry or environmental science, possess a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position, have strong communication abilities and extensive knowledge of tailing operations and environmental regulations.
