Chief Mining Engineer

Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess a degree in Mining Engineering and be eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba. Broad mining experience in metal and industrial mining engineering including development, production, processing and rehabilitation; and knowledge of safety and health programs and practices. Program management experience preferably in a customer-focussed environment; demonstrated strength in communication, analytical and decision-making skills and in managing change; and proven ability to develop and maintain effective team and individual working relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals. Some travel required.

Duties: The Chief Mining Engineer is accountable for the management of the Mining Engineer Section of the Mines Branch, administering legislation related to the opening, operation and closure of mines and quarries, and the subsequent rehabilitation of all lands affected by these mining operations. The incumbent also represents the department, and the province, on a variety of inter-departmental, inter-provincial and federal/provincial committees.

Regional Geologist

Department of Sustainable Development, Kugluktuk, Nunavut

Reporting to the Regional Superintendent of Sustainable Development, you will be responsible for developing the human resources infrastructure for mineral exploration and mining in the communities. You will also coordinate and deliver community workshops on the development of mineral resources, from geoscience through exploration, development for mining and reclamation; coordinate and deliver geoscience educational materials; provide liaison between residents of Nunavut, public and government agencies and the mining sector, and promote exploration potential of the region to improve and increase business and employment opportunities for Nunavut residents.

You must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in geology and geological engineering with relevant field experience and be registered or have the ability to become registered in an association of professional geoscientists. Strong geological skills and experience in a cross-cultural setting are definite assets.

Salary starts at $65,644 plus a northern allowance of $10,521 per annum.
