Canmine drilling FER project

A 13,500-metre drill program has begun on Canmine Resources’ (ASE) FER base metal project near Flin Flon, Man.

The program will test the Island zone, which is interpreted to consist of massive sulphide mineralization concentrated in the nose of a major synclinal fold structure. A highpower, transient, electromagnetic (HPTEM) survey over this zone outlined an anomaly with minimum lateral dimensions of 1,200 by 1,000 metres. Previous geophysical surveys indicated that the zone measured 700 by 500 metres.

The HPTEM anomaly lies at a depth of 200 to 300 metres, and geophysical crews have returned to the property to expand the anomaly along strike. The southern edge of the zone was drill-tested last summer and returned assays of up to 8.78% copper, 18% zinc and 0.23% lead, as well as 0.47 grams gold and 27.4 grams silver per tonne. The average sulphide intercept on these holes was 2.37 metres at vertical depths of 200 to 230 metres. Current geological reserves in the Island zone are estimated at 300,000 tonnes grading 1% copper and 5.02% zinc.

Canmine has also discovered three copper-zinc zones — Prism, FER and Ruby — around the upper limbs of the fold. These zones are open at depth and dip toward the fold axis. The FER zone, the largest of the three, occurs on the eastern limb of the fold and has a drill-indicated strike length of 1.2 km. Geological resources here are calculated at 1.7 million tonnes grading 0.61% copper, 3.21% zinc and 0.34% lead, plus 0.9 grams gold and 14 grams silver. The current program, consisting of about 60 holes, will employ three drills and is estimated to cost $1.2 million.

Canmine has completed a $1.9 million placement to fund the ongoing exploration program.
