Cancor finds new zone

The discovery of a new copper-zinc-silver-gold zone has Cancor Mines (KCR-M) optimistic that ongoing work will enhance the potential of its Gemini property in the Abitibi region of Quebec.

The discovery was made near a previous massive sulphide discovery on Zone B, which consists of two lenses: the Zinc zone and the Copper zone. Hole 93 hit the new zone near the area of the Copper zone. A 45-metre intersection from this hole averaged 0.33% copper and 0.34% zinc, plus 20.8 grams silver and 1.08 grams gold per tonne (from 409.25-441 metres); however, the best grades were from two intervals within the overall intersection. Values of 0.98% copper, 0.64% zinc, 58.1 grams silver and 3.17 grams gold were obtained from an 8-metre interval, which includes 4 metres averaging 1.61% copper, 0.58% zinc, 91.7 grams silver and 4.59 grams gold.

Cancor notes that its recently completed, 6,750-metre program of summer drilling also confirmed the continuation of the Zinc zone toward the surface. Hole 85 hit the zinc-bearing lens, about 150 metres below surface, over a true width of 9.7 metres. A 4.5-metre interval from this hole returned values of 6.72% zinc, 1.36% lead, 106.5 grams silver and 0.32 grams gold. Hole 91 hit the zinc-bearing sulphide lens 270 metres below surface. The best interval was 6.63 metres of 9.55% zinc, 56.5 grams silver and 2.61 grams gold. Other holes returned anomalous or lower-grade results. However, drilling did return high gold values (6.13 grams over 1 metres) in basalts and metasediments west of the B zone. The gold is in conjunction with a strong tourmaline and carbonate alteration zone.

The 272-claim Gemini property is north of La Sarre and south of the Casa Berardi gold mine. It covers a felsic volcanic belt more than 20 km long. Assays from the property’s A zone are still pending.
