Final results are in from a drill program on the east zone of Canadian United Minerals’ (vse) Fireweed property 32 miles northeast of Smithers, B.C. About 14,000 ft of drilling was recently completed and three of the holes tested a 1,000-ft-plus section of a 4,000-ft-long coincidental IP anomaly.
All the holes intersected variable widths of near massive iron sulphides containing significant base and precious metals values, the company notes.
Among the better intercepts were: 6.5 ft of 0.58% copper, 0.6 oz silver and 0.19 oz gold per ton. High zinc values were returned from another hole which yielded 8.8% zinc over 13 ft. The mineralized zone remains open along strike to the east, west and also to depth. Further exploration is planned this year after spring breakup, the company states.
The massive sulphides are finely disseminated and are more akin to the Equity Silver property at Houston, B.C. it claims. Most of the drilling has been done in the West zone where the highest silver values have been found but little gold. The west zone is still open to the west but it is structurally complicated by faulting. In-fill drilling is planned for the various zones later this year.
Canadian United has about eight miles of strike length already and the mineralized horizon is about 3.5 miles wide. No fringe staking has taken place yet but the company says it has all the favorable sandstone lithology tied up.
