Canadian Mineral Industry Education Foundation

The Canadian Mineral Industry Education Foundation, now in its 25th year, has expanded the eligibility categories for its scholarships. Ordinarily, the foundation offers undergraduate and some post-graduate scholarships to engineering students in mining, mineral processing or extractive or process metallurgy. As well, mechanical, electrical or process engineering students are funded. However, the foundation has decided to include students in geological engineering or geology.

It may also begin funding engineering students at the first- year level before they have committed to a career in mining. Currently, funding is extended only to those who have decided on the mining stream. The foundation will consider making the change this year.

The educational fund awards $2,000 per year for a maximum of three years to undergraduates. It is supported by mining companies and the J.P. Bickell Foundation. This year, the group is lending financial help to 43 university students who are working toward a career in mining.
