Natural Resources Canada will help the government of Tunisia manage its digital geographical data.
The cost of project is estimated at $4.3 million and will be funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
Fredericton, N.B.-based DMR Conseil was awarded a contract worth $520,000 to develop the framework for Tunisia’s national geomatics program, known as GEONAT. It will consist of a complete inventory of Tunisia’s current geomatics potential and abilities, including technical, legislative and institutional components.
Meanwhile, another contract was awarded to Laval University, in Quebec, to train a group of 25 Tunisian professionals on technology needed for GEONAT.
Says Natural Resources Minister Herbert Dhaliwal: “Canada’s support of GEONAT involves more than providing technical assistance and developing the capabilities of the Tunisian authorities to develop and implement their national program; it offers an opportunity to contribute to the sustainable development of Tunisia’s society.”
