Canabrava, Navigator resume drilling Kat

Canabrava Diamond (CNB-V) and Navigator Exploration (NVR-V) have returned to the Attawapiskat area of northern Ontario to drill-test a kimberlite target on their jointly held Kat project.

The target sits 4 km southwest of the AT-56 kimberlite, a small pipe discovered early last year by the joint venture during a first pass of drilling that tested 10 geophysical targets. The AT-56 body was found at the southern end of the Attawapiskat cluster of 19 pipes, just 4 km from De Beers‘ Victor project, which is currently undergoing prefeasibility studies. Just seven microdiamonds were recovered from 261 kg of samples collected form the first two holes drilled into AK-56. The processing of an additional 2.5 tonnes of kimberlite recovered from a further seven holes yielded no commercial-size stones.

The Kat project forms part of the Severn joint venture, under which Canabrava and Navigator are exploring for diamonds in the James Bay Lowlands. The Kat property, more than 200 sq. km of mineral claims in the Attawapiskat area, was acquired in 2000 following a review of regional airborne magnetic data. The joint venture subsequently flew the area with magnetic surveys totalling more than 46,000 line km.
