Campbell boosts mine reserves

Mine site exploration has earned Campbell Resources (TSE) substantial increases in reserves at the Santa Gertrudis mine in Mexico’s Sonora state and the Joe Mann mine south of Chibougamau, Que.

At the Santa Gertrudis, where exploration drilling between April and June tested eight mineralized zones (T.N.M., July 10/95), infill drilling has encountered mineralization with grades ranging from 1.91 to 10.5 grams gold per tonne over intersections 3 to 15 metres long.

Just over 10,000 metres of drilling have been carried out on the property this year, and preliminary reserve calculations indicate additional proven and probable reserves greater than the amount mined out to date in 1995.

Another 5,000 metres of drilling are slated to start next week on exploration targets both in the main mine area and in outlying parts of the property.

Exploration drilling below the developed levels of the Joe Mann mine has outlined new reserves containing a total of 250,000 oz. Annual production in 1994 was 61,000 oz. Almost 25,000 metres of drilling, in 74 holes, have been completed, and another 5,000 metres are planned in 18 more holes.

Development at the mine has reached a depth of just over 700 metres, and the recent drilling has indicated extensions of the mineralized zone as deep as 1,130 metres. It appears the zones keep their width at the deeper levels, and grades increase slightly.

An exploration drift is being advanced toward the West Zone, discovered in 1994. A hole drilled from the mine’s No. 2 shaft in August intersected 1.8 metres grading 6.1 grams gold at about 1,080 metres below surface — more than 200 metres deeper than previous intersections on the zone.
