C.L. Fausett, owner of Fausett International, an Idaho-based drilling company, has died. He was 64.
Fausett was born in Ashton, Idaho, in 1937. His family moved to the Silver Valley when he was 8, whereupon his father went to work in the mines.
At the age of 16, Fausett was hired as a mucker at the Star mine in Burke, Idaho, and eventually helped miners handle heavy drills.
Fausett rode the cage each morning deep into the underground silver mine. By the early 1970s, he had broken his spine for the third time, and was ready to work for himself.
He eventually owned and operated the Wallace Diamond Drill company, which later became Fausett Mine Services and then Fausett International. The company did contract work for several Silver Valley mines.
For years, Fausett organized the Coeur d’Alene district mining contest, which drew contestants from as far away as Nevada.
He also was a member of several mining associations, including the Northwest Mining Association and the Mining Heritage Exhibition in Silver Valley.
He was buried at Nine Mile Cemetery in Wallace, in a corner known as the Miners Section.
He is survived by his wife Nona Rae Bair, and three sons.
