Burton at Vancouver luncheon

At the next luncheon meeting of the Vancouver branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, William Burton, Western Canadian Coal‘s (WTN-T) vice-president of operations, will use his company’s operating mines and emerging projects as a blueprint for developing the next generation of mines in British Columbia. The meeting is slated for Oct. 27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver.

Western Canadian Coal has operations in northeastern British Columbia. With the Dillon mine in production, the Wolverine mine being built, and the Brule mine about to undergo regulatory approval, Western will be producing coal for years to come. Burton will discuss these properties, and the activities of Western Canadian Coal as a means to help others develop mines in B.C.

Burton graduated from the University of Alberta in 1973 with a degree in mine engineering and has worked in open-pit coal mining and open-pit and underground gold mining operations. Early in his career, he was involved with the startup and operation of the Coal Valley thermal coal mine and later the Bullmoose hard-coking coal mine.

Prior to joining Western Canadian Coal in February 2004, he was general manager of the Lupin underground gold mine in Nunavut.

The presentation begins at noon and the cost is $35 for members and $50 for non-members. The meeting is sponsored by Finnish metals producer Outokumpu.
