Breakwater intersects rich values at Darius

Deep drilling at Breakwater Resources’ (TSE) Darius gold project near Malartic, Que., has yielded an exceedingly rich intersection averaging 2.1 oz gold over 21.9 ft.

Brian G. Pewsey, president, says the intercept (from 1,033.5-1,055.4 ft) is the deepest so far in the Y zone; and he confirms the continuity of the zone has been excellent to date.

Over 31,000 ft of drilling has been completed in the program and three distinct zones of gold-bearing mineralization have been identified along 1,800 ft of strike length to a vertical depth of 800 ft.

Of the 46 holes for which assay results are available, 26 returned intersections in excess of 0.146 oz gold over core lengths of at least 5 ft. Some of the better intersections included: 42.6 ft of 0.3 oz, 27 ft grading 0.56 oz, 16.1 ft averaging 0.41 oz, 70.7 ft grading 0.18 oz and 23 ft of 0.21 oz. Pewsey says the intercepts are 70-80% of true width.

Drilling is under way laterally and also to depth. When the program is completed, the possiblilty of dewatering the existing shaft and carrying out an underground exploration program will be considered, he confirms. Breakwater, the operator, has a 51% interest in the project and St. Joe Canada 49%.

Meanwhile, shareholders of Novamin Inc. (TSE) approved its amalgamation with a wholly-owned subsidiary of Breakwater. The effective date of the amalgamation was May 18. Breakwater will be the continuing company.
