Vancouver-listed Botswana Diamondfields is set to renew exploration of its licences in Botswana.
On the Jwaneng licences, ground followup of aeromagnetic and ground surveys led to the discovery of several magnetic anomalies. Strong, coincidental, indictator-mineral anomalies have also been mapped, over a strike length of several hundred metres.
Drill holes over the first new magnetic anomaly intersected kimberlite. However, evaluation of a bulk sample from the kimberlite indicates a low potential for commercial development.
The company proposes additional exploration in areas where the concentration of indicator minerals suggests that another kimberlite body exists.
Exploration of the Mopipi licences has followed the same procedure as at Jwaneng. Additional drilling will attempt to locate the kimberlitic source of the abundant indicator minerals and microdiamonds reported late last year.
On the Okwa licences, Botswana Diamondfields has completed a 4,700-line-km helicopter aeromagnetic survey of one licence block, and followed it with airborne and ground study of targets that were identified by the survey.
A sampling program is under way, with work focused on the area where several kimberlitic ilmenites and garnets were discovered. Of seven garnets discovered, one is of the G-10 variety.
