Books Mine design in high-stress rock

A. A. Balkema Publishers of the Netherlands has published the proceedings of the 9th Plenary Scientific Session of the International Bureau of Strata Mechanics, held in Varna, Bulgaria, June 18-21, 1985.

Entitled Mining Syste ms Adjusted to High Rock Pressure Conditions, the 348-page volume contains 39 papers (nine in german) important to all mine engineers responsible for designing mine openings in rock formations with high horizontal and vertical stresses. The papers, presented by people from around the world, cover such important phenomena as dynamic rock pressures, rockbursts, seismic tremors and plastic deformation of rock.

The technical data presented should help mine engineers design shaft linings, rock supports and pillar dimensions in high-stress environments. It should also help mines achieve optimum layout of mine openings and assist in the selection of appropriate mine machinery for particular ground conditions.

The hard-cover volume costs $60.00(US) from A. A. Balkema Publishers, P.O. Box 230, Accord, MA 02018.
