BOOK REVIEW — Labor dispute recalled in The Third Suspect

The Third Suspect, written by David Staples and Greg Owens, examines various aspects of the bitter labor dispute that culminated in the murder of nine miners at the Giant gold mine in Yellowknife, N.W.T.

The book follows the lives of those involved in the labor dispute, from its inception to the tragic explosion on Sept. 18, 1992, as well as the subsequent investigation and trial.

Police investigators initially focused on a conspiracy theory, and rejected the idea that one angry striker was responsible. But 13 months later, that is precisely what they concluded, and longtime miner Roger Warren was charged with the crime.

The Third Suspect is published by Red Deer College Press and distributed by Raincoast Book Distribution, based in Vancouver, B.C.
