The proceedings of the 4th international symposium on mining with backfill ,held in Montreal Oct 2-5, 1989, have been compiled into a book, titled Innovations in Mining Backfill Technology.
The usage of backfill in mining has increased significantly in recent years, mainly associated with the growing recognition of its role in ground support and environmental engineering. Backfill research is widespread, and significant technology development has been incorporated in the papers presented at the symposium. The technical themes comprise in situ determination of backfill properties, laboratory determination of backfill properties, backfill support in rockburst-prone ground, the application of backfill in bulk mining methods, backfill support in soft rock mining, and system design and economics of mining backfill.
The 49 papers from the major mining countries provide reference for researchers and practising engineers who seek an update on the capabilities of recent backfill technology development.
