BHP chief confirms mid-’94 target

BHP Minerals Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Ellis told a meeting of financial analysts in Toronto this past week that 1994 will be pivotal to the BHP-Dia Met play in the Northwest Territories.

The company will extract 4,000 tonnes from each of two kimberlite pipes. Should the deposits prove economic, “we’re in for a new era in Canadian mining,” the CEO said. Results should be known by mid-1994.
