BHP active in Manitoba

BHP Billiton Diamonds, a unit of BHP Billiton (BHP-N), plans to drill geophysical anomalies on the Stephens Lake nickel project, 100 km east of Gillam, Man.

The property is optioned from equal owners ValGold Resources (VAL-V), Cream Minerals (CMA-V) and Sultan Minerals (SUL-V).

In March, a helicopter-borne vertical transient electromagnetic (EM) survey tested specific anomalies.

BHP will drill six targets in January. These consist of two types: coincident linear EM and magnetic, and isolated intrusive-like magnetic. One of the isolated anomalies is along a dyke.

Two of the holes will target anomalies on the adjacent Big Claim property.

The Stephens Lake property is 75 km long. Supplies will be transported to the site via a winter road that extends east of Gillam.

BHP can earn an initial 51% interest in the 1,700-sq.-km property.
