The Canadian Geophysical Union (CGU) recently awarded its Wilson Medal to Michael Berry of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC).
The medal, named for the late J. Tuzo Wilson, is awarded annually by CGU in recognition of outstanding contributions to geophysics in Canada. Berry is the 17th recipient.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Berry specialized in seismology. He joined the earth physics branch of the federal Department of Energy of Mines, where eventually he became director of the seismology division. Berry is currently director general of the GSC’s mineral and continental geoscience branch.
