Bell Allard workers ratify 3-year agreement

Workers at Noranda’s Bell Allard zinc mine in Matagami, Que., have voted 80% in favour of a 3-year collective agreement. The previous contract expired in November 2001.

The new agreement includes a wage increase of 45 per hour in the first year and 90 in each of the remaining two, as well as improved benefits and retirement programs.

The mine began commercial production in January 2000 and currently produces 2,000 tonnes per day. Its 265 workers are members of United Steelworkers of America, local 6131.
