Beaufield, Falconbridge gold discovery at Rouleau

An important-looking gold discovery has been made by partners Beaufield Resources (49%) and Falconbridge Ltd. (51%) in the Macho- Rouleau area 140 km northeast of Senneterre, Que. Drilling by Falconbridge on the Lac Rouleau property, one of four held by the partners in the area, has intersected wide-spread gold mineralization in a large shear zone. A 43-hole drill program totalling 31,971 ft, was completed on the 33-claim Lac Rouleau property. The drilling has intersected gold mineralization associated with three discrete zones proximal to a strongly carbonatized and silicified shear zone striking for 3,000 ft. Large untested gaps along strike between the zones remain to be drilled. Some of the better results from the three zones are listed below. Zone 17 Hole Width (ft)Grade

Results from zone 18 appear to be the most encouraging. Gold is associated with a zone up to 130 ft in width. The zone has been outlined across 820 ft strike and to a depth of 1,176 ft in hole 63. A pyritic silicified zone within the much wider carbonatized envelope, hosts a majority of the gold.

An examination of a preliminary longitudinal section by The Northern Miner shows good potential for building tonnage above the 300-ft level and across 600 ft of strike in zone 18. With mineralization outcropping at surface, the zone also exhibits open pit mining possibilities. The zone remains open at depth and along strike.

“Zone 18 is the best one,” Jean- Pierre Cloutier, regional exploration manager with Falconbridge, told The Northern Miner. “The zone displays good widths and strike dimensions,” he added.

Next year, the partners plan to spend $1.2 million following up the 1987 drill programs, George S. Slightham, president of Beaufield, told The Northern Miner. Of this amount, approximately 75% will be spent on the 17 and 18 zones, Cloutier added. This work will focus on filling in gaps between several of the widely spaced mineralized intersections and extending the boundaries of the gold-bearing zones.
