After earning a bachelor of commerce degree from Concordia University in Montreal, and later working as a chartered accountant with a large Canadian firm, Gregory Wilkins joined Barrick in 1981.
Over the next 12 years, Wilkins rose through the ranks to become executive vice-president and CFO. He worked closely with Chairman and Founder Peter Munk and other senior executives to turn Barrick into a bona fide gold company.
In 1993, he left Barrick to become President and COO of Horsham Corp., which he later merged with Trizec Corp. to form TrizecHahn, one of the largest real estate companies in North America. As vice-chairman, he served the company until it was converted to a U.S.-based real estate investment trust.
Wilkins became Barrick’s president and CEO in February 2003.
