Battle zone gives second success at Westmin’s Myra

Ongoing drilling by Westmin Resources (TSE) is returning more encouraging results from the Gap-Battle zone area of the Myra Falls mine property near Campbell River, B.C.

Westmin produces copper and zinc concentrates from its Myra Falls operation which consists of two underground mines, the Lynx and H-W, a milling complex and related facilities.

The company has been reporting extraordinary success from a drilling program aimed at expanding reserves on the property, particularly from the previously untested Gap area. Drilling in this area has returned grades well above the grade of reserves currently being mined.

But several recent holes also returned encouraging results from the nearby Battle zone area, with the latest (14-722) returning 16.6 metres (54.4 ft.) grading 0.8 grams (0.023 oz.) gold and 14.2 grams (0.41 oz.) silver per tonne, 2.8% copper, 0.2% lead and 5.7% zinc.

Westmin said the mineralization was encountered 107 metres (350 ft.) east of the “excellent” intersections obtained in holes 14-905, 14-906 and 14-907. The new intersection is reported to be similar geologically to the discovery in those three holes, and the company believes it is likely part of the same deposit.

Hole 14-722 has other mineralized sections above and below, and is still drilling. Westmin said it is highly encouraged by this result because the combination of the large stepout distance and the increased thickness of massive sulphides on section 16+92E, “suggests another orebody of major tonnage potential in the Gap-Battle zone area.”
