Barrick pulls strong hole on Card Lake bet

Assay results from one of six recently completed surface drill holes on Card Lake Resources’ (COATS) Harker Twp. property near Matheson, Ont., include 10.5 ft. grading 0.26 oz. gold per ton and 7.5 ft. grading 0.20 oz. go ld. The property is currently held under option by American Barrick Resources (TSE).

The two closely spaced drill intersections came from the same hole, and were obtained at vertical depths of about 500 ft. below surface.

The claims are about 2.5 miles west of Barrick’s Holt-McDermott gold mine.

Previous drilling by Card Lake on the claims encountered some significant gold mineralization along the Card Lake fault, a geological structure associated with the McKenna fault along which the Holt- McDermott mine is located. That drilling focused on an area about a half-mile northwest of a shallow deposit outlined previously by Barrick on its ground.

Last year, Barrick’s third-quarter report stated that “exploration has identified a small shallow deposit grading 0.20 oz. gold, about two miles from the Holt-McDermott mine.” The company said the deposit has the potential to provide additional mill feed to the mine.

Barrick is conducting a follow-up drill program comprising 3,000 ft. in four holes on the Card Lake claims.
