Barrick interested in Bre-X

A junior searching for gold and base metal projects in Indonesia has caught the eye of one of North America’s largest gold mining companies.

In a written proposal, American Barrick Resources (TSE) has offered to acquire an equity interest in Bre-X Minerals (ASE), as well as property joint-venture options.

The junior has been acquiring properties in the Malay Archipelago under the direction of John Felderhof, who was involved in the discovery of the Ok Tedi copper-gold deposit in neighboring Papua New Guinea.

Details of the offer will be released after final documents are signed and approval is received from directors and regulators.
