An independent forum of 13 major earth science societies has given geologists with the British Columbia government a positive review. The Canadian Geoscience Council said after its review that the B.C. Geological Survey evolved, through the 1980s, “into a productive, innovative and respected institute of applied science.”
Special praise was given for the speed of getting research data to the users – geologists and land-use planners – and for the open house at the Cordilleran Roundup, an annual convention staged in Vancouver which brings together geologists, prospectors and exploration companies.
The province spends $8.8 million annually on geoscience surveys.
