Montreal-based Aurochs Exploration (ME) is gearing up to explore two new gold and copper showings in the Matapedia Valley area of Quebec’s Gaspe region. The showings, discovered by a prospector, are situated on the recently optioned Lepage property in La Verendrye Twp., about 13 km east of Causapscal, Que.
Aurochs can earn a 100% interest in the claims by making a $200,000 cash payment, issuing one million shares and spending $1 million on exploration over a 3-year period.
Recent prospecting work on the property found a system of gold- bearing quartz veins in volcanic rocks near a major fault. A 400-metre-wide band of andesite rocks which traverse the property have yielded grab samples as high as 55.4 grams gold per tonne in a 40-cm wide quartz vein.
A second showing with base metal values is 700 metres northeast of the gold showing. It yielded 17.5% zinc, 2.7% copper and 0.79 grams gold per tonne over a 25-cm width.
The discoveries were made by prospector Louis Lepage who was also responsible for the St-Andre de Restigouche gold discovery which has been optioned by Noranda (TSE).
