Aurizon finds more gold (December 07, 1998)

Aurizon Mines (ARZ-T) continues to hit long gold intersections in the West Mine zone of the Casa Berardi mine in northwestern Quebec.

Surface holes have intersected a gold-bearing zone at a depth of 600 metres over a 400-metre strike length in an area just east of the West Mine zone’s ramp.

Highlights from within a footwall zone include: 18.5 metres grading 18.5 grams gold per tonne in hole S5; 37.6 metres of 6.5 grams gold in hole S6; 24.5 metres of 4.3 grams gold in hole S8; and 1.5 metres of 3.7 grams gold in hole S9.

Three underground drills are defining and testing extensions of existing mineralization, in particular the Lower Inter and 111 zones. Four surface drills are also exploring an area east of, and at depth from, existing mineralization in the West Mine area.

Due for completion in the first quarter of 1999, Aurizon’s 50,000-metre exploration drilling program is attempting to boost the dormant mine’s resource base into the range of 1 million oz. gold. Not including data from the recent campaign, Aurizon has pegged the West Mine zone’s resources at 3.4 million tonnes grading 5.1 grams gold, or 550,000 contained ounces.
