Ateba, Roxmark explore zone (December 19, 1988)

Assays of the gold mineralization at the 17th level of the old Magnet mine near Geraldton, Ont., have been encouraging, particularly where the entire widths of the mineralization are exposed in the workings, Ateba Mines ( TSE) reports.

Principal target of the exploration program of Ateba and joint- venture partner Roxmark Mines (TSE) is the New zone which is exposed on the 17th level.

Work to date on the zone includes sampling and mapping of the level’s drifts and crosscuts, and drilling. The company reports mapping has confirmed the zone to be a completely folded and altered package of clastic and chemical metasedimentary and dioritic rocks with the most significant assays associated with bands of sulphide enrichment and quartz veining.

Two drills have been in use, with 17 holes completed on 50-ft centres. The company says the mineralization is present in all 17 intersections along a strike length of 350 ft and a vertical distance of 150 ft, and remains open in all directions. Among the better results: Hole Width Grade

(ft) (oz/t) U-17-15 15.4 0.11

(incl.) 8.4 0.16 U-17-16 31.4 0.1

(incl.) 3.2 0.21 U-17-17 23.5 0.1

(incl.) 6.3 0.15 U-17-18 11.8 0.15

(incl.) 2 0.45 U-17-19 12.3 0.23

(incl.) 2.4 0.56

When the company resumes drilling in 1989, its intention will be to establish the upward potential of the New zone above the 17th level. It has been theorized the Benedict zone, drilled from surface previously, may be the upward extension of the New zone.
