Asarco (NYSE) is contributing a grant of US$200,000 to Montana Tech in the state of Montana to endow a US$150,000 professorship in minerals engineering and provide US$50,000 for scholarships. Active in the state with several projects, Asarco operates a lead smelter at East Helena that has run since 1888, the year before Montana gained statehood.
