Asarco explores West Fissure

An agreement with Southwestern Gold (SWG-T) allows a unit of Asarco (AR-N) to earn a 51% interest in the West Fissure copper project in central Chile.

The property comprises 58,000 ha in the main West Fissure Porphyry copper belt, which hosts several major copper deposits, including Escondida and Chuquicamata. The recent discovery of several large deposits underlain completely by gravels has generated new interest in the exploration for blind deposits in the region.

Asarco is project operator and can earn a 51% interest in the property by spending $1 million over two years and making initial property payments of US$71,000. Asarco can earn an additional 9% interest by funding a feasibilty study. A first phase of exploration is under way.
