Two exploration programs were undertaken by Armistice Resources (ME) at its Virginiatown, Ont., property in January, one geared toward extraction of a bulk sample and the other involving surface work. Mining of a 10,000-ton bulk sample from the Sheldon 185N zone will be accomplished by driving a 300-ft. crosscut northwest from the 2,050-ft. level of the Armistice shaft. The company says the ore zone will be silled out from about 300 ft. in an east-west direction. Ultimately, long hole stoping methods will be employed to mine the zone. A grade of better than 0.2 oz. gold per ton is expected.
The bulk sample will be processed at the nearby Kerr mill, which is being acquired (on a 50/50 ownership basis) by GSR Mining and Deak Resources. The former owner of the old Kerr mine and mill, Golden Shield Resources, declared bankruptcy last year.
The underground work will allow for examination of the 185N zone in detail, and create a platform for future drilling of two other known zones just north of the 185N zone, the company says.
The other work program was performed at the Mill zone, which has undergone drilling and trenching in past years. The company says the zone outcrops on surface and consists of gold-bearing carbonate and flow-type rocks.
Assay results from the recent rock-chip sampling were encouraging, the company says. A 3,000- ton bulk sample was extracted from a carbonate zone for testing. Further exploration is warranted, the company says.
