As part of the PDAC Workshop Series, this one-day educational session taught by experts from the World Bank and Private Practices, will focus on Mining Fiscal Systems and Contract Negotiations.
The workshop will emphasize practical measures and standards to include in contracts and is recommended for government, company, and civil society practitioners and persons involved with contract negotiations and supervision of the contracts.
Many governments and companies are concerned with the sustainability of contracts in environments of high price volatility for commodities. Government revenues and company profitability are positively or adversely effected by movements in commodity price and production costs. Mining contracts and mining laws/regulations need to take into account transparent mechanisms to allow both parties to weather the commodity price cycle and to ensure an adequate and fair sharing of benefits streams from the operation.
The course will focus on Applications in Mining Taxation and Contract Negotiations. This topic builds on (a) the work of the World Bank in West Africa on harmonizing fiscal regimes and negotiation of contracts; and (b), the current thinking at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund with respect to appropriate taxation measures. The workshop will emphasize practical measures and standards to include in contracts.
The course will be taught by experts in mining fiscal systems and contract negotiations from the World Bank and private practice.
