In the Stillwater area of Montana, the company has acquired four claim blocks covering favorable stratigraphy of the Stillwater Complex — a large layered intrusive. The Stillwater Complex hosts North America’s only producing platinum mine.
The 41-claim Chrome Mountain lease covers the basal and ultramafic zones of the complex which contain several chromite and disseminated chromite and copper- nickel sulphide horizons.
According to Dr Luca Riccio, American Platinum’s geological consultant, the area has the potential for hosting chromite-enriched PGM deposits similar to those occurring in the UG2 zone in South Africa’s Bushveld Complex. An exploration program is planned for this year.
