Ward, whose company is based in New Orleans, previously served as AMC vice-chairman and chairman of the finance committee and has been a board-member of the New Orleans, La.-based company for five years.
Ward has worked in the mining industry for more than 30 years. He joined Freeport Minerals in 1974 as vice-president and is now chairman and president of Freeport- McMoRan Gold.
Allen Born, chairman, CEO and president of AMAX, was named chairman of the finance committee and was re-elected a vice- chairman of the mining association.
Immediate past chairman of AMC, Harry Conger, chairman of Homestake Mining, was elected vice-chairman. Newly elected to the AMC board of directors for 3-year terms were Anthony Petrina, president of Placer Dome, and J. B. Winter, president of Magma Copper; for a 2-year term, Dana Getman, president, Getman Cor.; and for a 1-year term, Stuart Theis, vice-president, coal, Marine Services and International Operations, M. A. Hanna Co.
