AMEC takes a larger spoonful of Chile

AMEC (AMEC-L), an international engineering and project management firm, is adding 540 Santiago, Chile-based employees to the fold by acquiring Chilean engineering firm, CADE-IDEPE.

Now with more than 900 employees, the move makes AMEC the largest engineering firm in Chile. CADE-IDEPE deals mostly with clients in the natural resources and energy sectors. AMEC has worked with the firm for 13 years.

“AMEC has worked closely with CADE-IDEPE engineers on numerous projects and we have seen first-hand the high-quality work produced. Our people all work well together and we look forward to combining our resources to help serve the rapidly growing global mining market,” says Bob Stanlake, vice-president and general manager of AMEC’s Mining and Metals division.

The move gives AMEC a broader South American base from which to work. AMEC also plans to use some of the firm’s engineering expertise in North America, where energy companies are rapidly expanding operations.

AMEC’s natural resources, power and process and earth and environmental businesses employ roughly 18,000 people in about 25 countries.
