AMEC acquires Smith Williams

In an effort to strengthen its presence in the western United States, international engineering and project management company AMEC has purchased Smith Williams Consultants.

London-based AMEC, which employs nearly 20,000 people in more than 30 countries around the world, hopes to use the acquisition to expand its western client base.

Smith Williams has headquarters in both Colorado and Nevada. “The mining sector is one of our target growth areas and the addition of the specialist services of Smith Williams adds significant strength to our mining practice, especially in the United States,” said William Brickley, senior vice-president of AMEC.

SWC has worked on more than 140 mine engineering projects on five continents for many companies, including Barrick Gold (ABX-T, ABX-N), Coeur d’Alene Mines (CDM-T, CDE-T), NovaGold Resources (NG-T, NG-X) and for state governments, including Alaska and Colorado.

“Our clients will benefit greatly with the addition of AMEC’s broad resources, technical capabilities and environmental expertise,” said Mike Smith, president of Smith Williams.
