Alberta Stock Exchange Lacklustre session

In a relatively uneventful trading session, International Baslen Enterprises topped the list. With 422,500 shares changing hands the issue gained 15 cents to close at 93 cents .

International Baslen investors are betting on a 3,000-acre Val d’ Or, Que., property which contains established reserves of 25,000 oz to 30,000 oz grading from 0.26 oz to 0.53 oz gold per ton.

Geologists are evaluating the property and an exploration program is scheduled to begin soon.

Elsewhere on the Alberta Exchange, investors took what could be construed as a spring break. Aside from Baslen, Pelham Gold and Penway Exploration were the only issued to trade more than 200,000 shares.

With 274,900 shares changing hands, the Pelham issued was up 13 cents to close at 81 cents

Trading on 273,700 shares, the Penway issue dropped 37 cents from its share price to close 40 cents

The Ekaton Industries issue gained 37 cents on completing the first stage ($300,000) of private placement designed to raise $1.2 million for development at the company’s Kaolin project at Wood Mountain, Sask.

Ekaton closed at $1.80 while 87,800 shares traded.

Monte Carlo Gold Mines remained steady at 79 cents although surface mapping and sampling of quartz- vein type gold occurrences is underway at the company’s Aruba Island venture in the south Caribbean.

High grade quartz veins within dioritic country rocks have yielded assays as high as 8.32 oz gold, Monte Carlo says. According to the company, channel samples from the island’s open pitable Asiboca district, include 72 ft grading 0.050 oz including 45 ft of 0.071 oz gold.

The Seadrift International issue gained 5 cents following the release of drill results from three additional holes on the No. 8 orebody at the company’s wholly-owned Aldermac property in Noranda, Que.

While eight holes drilled recently, encountered massive sulphides in the No. 8 and associated zones, the latest results include 45 ft grading 0.016 oz gold, 0.62 oz silver, 1.65% copper and 0.37% zinc in hole 88-7.
