Nevertheless, an attempt by Guinness Gold to capture six base metal properties in Newfoundland’s Sops arm area whet investors’ interest. That interest was reflected this week in a 20 cents hike in the company’s share price.
A proposed agreement involving Guinness Gold and a private company called AVIP Resources is currently under review by the Alberta Stock Exchange, according to Guinness President John Hurley who fears that the deal may not go through.
A 20 cents increase in its share price was also reported by Trio Gold Corp. Trading on 124,300 shares, the Trio issue closed at 35 cents . The Calgary company recently acquired a 100% working interest in a block of 29 gold claims in Elko Cty, Nev.
According to Trio, the claims are situated to the northwest of the Dee and Bootstrap gold mines on the burgeoning Carlin gold trend and that recent results include 60 ft of grade 0.045 oz gold per ton and 50 ft of 0.065 oz.
The Octan Resources issue gained 5 cents as news leaked out that it is close to getting the dollars it needs for a 3-year exploration program at the El Bonanza silver claims in the Northwest Territories.
According to Octan, a budget has not yet been estimated but based on targets identified so far, expenditures of between $1.5 million and $2 million annually may be necessary.
In the Great Bear Lake, N.W.T. region, Octan holds three properties consisting of five silver deposits, an airstrip, two concentrators, a 500-ton-per-day mill and underground mining equipment.
Results haven’t been released yet but Tarzan Gold recently completed 38 reverse circulation drill holes on a number of claims held under option from Glen Auden Resources.
Located in Hurtubise and St. Laurent twps. south of Timmins, Ont. the claims are thought to host several structures with characteristics similar to the Casa Berardi, Que. region where Inco Gold is bringing a second gold mine into production. Trading on 48,100 shares, Tarzan was up 11 cents to close at $1.16. The Siam Trading issue remained steady at 50 cents despite news that a private placement of 200,000 shares has raised $100,000 for exploration at its Northern Thailand mineral properties.
