Alberta Stock Exchange Fear boosts gold

Trading volumes were generally lower during the week ended Aug. 7 as most investors appeared to be awaiting the outcome of events in the current Middle East turmoil. Meanwhile, gold prices surged ahead to US$384.75 on fears that a potential war between Iraq and the U.S. may wreak havoc on world oil markets and spark higher inflation.
